I’ve never been one to shell out the big bucks for fancy dog clothes or pampering. But, when it comes to dog necessities that are going to be taking up space in my property, I want them to look good. Now, with that said, most of the modern pet stuff I found is ridiculously expensive. So you can both scoff at and adore the following with me.

This post is the first of several installments to come about modern pet accessories. I’ll focus on pet housing for this post.

This modern beaut is from PreFabPets. It sells for $349-$899 depending on what size you want. The small version is pictured.

This dog bed/crate also serves as a nice end-table. Although, it may be weird to have a caged animal in the room if you have visitors. This comes from DenHaus costs $599. I don’t think that cute Boston is part of the deal here.

This prefab dog house was custom designed by architect Rocio Romero to go along with a house that he designed for a family in Maine. You can see pics of the house and dog house here.

I found this lovely crate on etsy from seller Pure Panache. It’s handmade, so you know it’s good. It sells for $350.

Yes, that is a dog house. Yes, it is ridiculous. You can read a post here about this house for 2 Great Danes that cost over $380,000. It comes complete with temperature controlled beds, 52″ Plasma TV and much more. Wow.

Sometimes signage just shows how you’re really feeling. I mean, if you’re brave enough to use a gas station restroom in the middle of nowhere, you must have to go as bad as those poor stick figures. There’s nothing I appreciate more than a good pee-pee dance sign. I snapped these with the trusty iPhone on our trip to OK last week.

Bacon + Chocolate = Awesome

Today my boss introduced me to the wonder that is bacon chocolate. If you just gagged a little, I can excuse that. But you should try it. It’s weird. It’s good. Enough said.

The particular brand I had was Vosges. But you can acquire bacon + chocolate through many other venues. Mmmmmmhmmmm.

Victory Garden

Over the weekend (and spilling over into this week), my hubby built a sweet new planter to house some veggies and herbs. The actual construction of the bed took a few hours. The laborious part was making it level and filling it with dirt. According to the plant labels and seed packets, I will be chowing down on some strawberries, carrots, green beans, eggplant and various herbs in 50-60 days. Definition:
Victory gardens, also called war gardens or food gardens for defense, were vegetable, fruit and herb gardens planted at private residences in the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom during World War I and World War II to reduce the pressure on the public food supply brought on by the war.

Today, victory gardens are being revived as a way to promote sustainability and provide inexpensive and healthy food.

I recently discovered the world of extreme knitting. There’s something to be said about giant needles, crazy yarn and beautiful finished products. My favorite extreme knitter is Christien Meindertsma. There’s a recent NPR story on the suject here, it’s an audio slideshow with nice photos.
